(Airing Sept. 28 – Oct. 4) eTown broadcast/podcast with Loretta Lynn and Chuck Mead
By Helen ~ September 27, 2011
This week’s show is a very special one, featuring legendary singer/songwriter Loretta Lynn. Wow! That’s right, Nick and I welcome the ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ herself, Loretta Lynn. This encore airing is classic eTown. For one thing, Loretta is a hoot in her conversation with Nick, just funny and charming and real as all get out. She talks with great candor about her humble upbringing as part of a poor coal mining clan. And even better, she shares songs you’ll recognize and love to hear, from her many years of performing and recording.
Also with us this week, alt-country BR549 front-man Chuck Mead. Chuck takes a break from the band to fly ‘solo’ this show, bringing songs from his own personal musical project. One of my favorite memories of this show is when he and Nick completely rock out – dueling guitars! – on one of his tunes, it’s one of those wonderful, one-of-a-kind musical moments that eTown is known for. You’ll love it. (A bit of eTown trivia: You know, some people don’t know Nick’s background as an accomplished and respected professional player, and he is not one to tout his gift, far from it; but this is one of those times when you just can’t miss how good he is.)
As always, there’s a great E-Chievement Award interview too. So be sure to tune in (or podcast)!
We’re back off the road after taping a few amazing road shows (more about them when we get closer to air time) and I’m so grateful to be home. As many of you know, I struggle with chronic pain (couple of bad car accidents, not worth going into, will save you the details, but travel, as much as I love it, just kills me) and I’m so glad to know that I’m not going anywhere for a while. Just hanging here, ready to watch the leaves change into their fall colors, cuddle with my kitty at night and work during the day to edit these road shows in the next few weeks for your listening pleasure. It’s Indian summer here in Colorado –so gorgeous and balmy – and I’m loving it.
Our good friends, Beppe Gambetta and his wonderful wife Frederica, are here visiting from Italy. They’re the folks who work so hard to put on the ‘Acoustic Night’ series out of Genova every year; check out YouTube or Vimeo under ‘Acoustic Night 2011’ to see clips of the show that Nick did with Beppe, Brian Sutton and Peter Ostrusko this past May (I’m even to be found, doing a walk-on vocal feature on that show . . Freddie says I was a hit, especially with the men in the audience – ha!). It’s so good to see Freddie and Beppe, and to be able to return a small portion of the sweet and generous hospitality they showed us while we were in Italy.
Getting late, must head to bed. Till next week, I hope you stay safe and have the time to tune in and be with us.
Talk soon, Helen
