(Airing Oct. 5 – Oct. 11) eTown broadcast/podcast with David Gray and Harper Simon

By Helen ~ October 4, 2011

Lots of news, including Nick on tour with Hot Rize (see touring schedule below) and the scoop about this week’s broadcast/podcast:

It’s visiting guests David Gray and Harper Simon (son of Paul) in this week’s eTown ‘back by popular demand’ re-broadcast. This show is crammed full of great stuff (which is why we’re bringing it back for you!):

L-R: Neill MacColl, Helen Forster and David Gray

David Gray first appeared on eTown in 2000. Although he was a huge star in Europe at that time, particularly in his home country of Great Britain, he was just starting to get recognition as an artist in the U.S when he came to be with us. By the time David came back to be on the show a few years later for one of our special shows from Red Rocks Amphitheater, he’d become a big hit here in the States as well. In this most recent eTown appearance, David shares some brilliantly written original tunes, both new and old. He brings his musical associate, Neill MacColl (a great guitar player and singer in his own right). Together they create musical magic.

We also welcome Harper Simon (as aforementioned, son of Paul Simon & Peggy Harper), celebrating his first album release. There’s great live, one-of-a-kind musical performances, plus compelling, revealing dialogue (the conversation between David and Nick alone is worth tuning in for!) and a wonderful E-Chievement Award interview. It’s a classic eTown I hope you’ll tune in for.

Well, it’s just beautiful around right now, a gorgeous time of year, Indian summer here in Colorado. The fall weather has been unseasonably warm, in the 80’s, bright and sunny and fine. The two-story tall ash tree outside our upstairs window is doing its thing, slowly turning to a magnificent gold.  It never fails to take my breath away every time I look at it. So often I miss this time of year due to travel (eTown road shows, etc.) but luckily this time I’m here to enjoy it, as well the company of my house guests, while Nick is out on the road for a two week tour with Hot Rize.

Btw this is a rare Hot Rize viewing opportunity (they only go out a couple of times a year). If you’re going to be in any of the following areas, don’t miss the chance to see this internationally beloved, award winning bluegrass band. They’ve been out for a week, performing to rave reviews across Tennesse and the Carolinas; here’s the schedule of what dates are left on the tour:

Thursday October 6th  Arlington, VA  - Birchmere Music Hall

Friday October 7th  Roanoke, VA – Shaftman Hall

Saturday October 8th Atlanta, GA – Variety Playhouse

Sunday October 9th Raleigh, NC – Meymandi Concert Hall

Meantime, eTown Hall construction goes on, they’re crankin’ away over there. Check out the photos on our website, on the eTown Hall page.

Safe well, talk soon,

Helen
