Hello my friends,
By Helen ~ December 6, 2011
This week’s show features Tori Amos and Loudon Wainwright III, as eTown revisits the Big Apple for a live taping at the Grand Ballroom at the Manhattan Center. (This was a special program, one that so many of our listeners requested another chance to hear, we just had to accommodate them.) It’s just Tori and her piano, period, a rare occurrence. (Tell anyone you know who might be a Tori fan; they won’t want to miss this solo performance.)
And of course Loudon alone is worth tuning in for. He’s an eTown veteran, having been with us several times now; this visit he shares songs from the CD project he did a while back called “High, Wide and Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project” (it won a Grammy as Best Traditional Folk Album in 2010). He also does a tongue-in-cheek original tune about the seamy side of the holidays that’s pretty funny! Seems appropriate, as we head into the shopping frenzy that we know as Christmas. Anyways, made me laugh; hope it will you, too.
There’s a really cool
E-Chievement Award story for you as well, featuring a NYC resident who helps low income folks to stay cozy and warm affordably, by making their homes energy efficient (his long term goal is to ‘green’ the entire Big Apple). Tune in to hear his on-stage, in-person interview, AND catch talented Punch Brothers member Gabe Witcher as part of our road show house band, this week in NYC!
Speaking of which, despite a brutal head and chest cold, I’m still hoping to recover in time to go back to New York City soon. If I end up going back, I’ll give you a full report when I return. Sorry this week’s blog is so short, but I gotta head home and go to bed!
Best,
Helen
P.S. Just a reminder: Its fundraising time for eTown, our only time of the year we do this for operational support. eTown currently has a matching grant of $50K for this; if you can, please make a tax deductible donation of whatever dollar amount you wish. Your donation will be matched dollar for dollar, and will help keep eTown on the air and podcasting around the world, putting out great music with the message of ‘get informed, get inspired, get involved’! Thank you.
