Being thankful . . . for Los Lobos and more . . .
By Helen ~ November 21, 2012
Re: This week’s airing . . . We’re bringing back one of our most talked about programs, one that our listeners have loved:
It’s one of our road shows in Ft. Collins, for one thing, and the energy in the room is electric. AND our musical guests include Los Lobos, one of THE best bands that ever existed. Seriously. If you don’t know of this band, you should. My advice? Tune in. You will love them.
Also with us is an adorable local Ft. Collins group called SHEL (the name is made up of the first letter of each of their first names, how cute is that?). These are four young, classically trained musical sisters who have an infectious pop sound and that sibling harmony thing going for them. Very cool.
We have another moving E-Chievement Award story for you, too, of course.
So there you have it.
By the way, Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope you have a chance to take some time off, be with friends and family if that’s something that’ll bring you joy. That whole family thing around the holidays can be tricky sometimes. Just depends on the family unit. Blended families are particularly challenging at holiday time (I speak from experience).
So whether it’s the big dinner/bunch of people thing, or it’s a solitary time, or somewhere in between, I wish you a satisfying and fulfilling holiday break. To those of you who must work on the holiday, I wish you didn’t have to.
Be well, talk soon,
PS – Hey everybody – Check out this great event happening at eTown Hall . . .

Jake Schepps’s Expedition Quintet will be performing the world premiere of “Flatiron” on December 1, 2012. “Flatiron” is a work composed for the quintet, a traditional bluegrass string band featuring banjo, mandolin, guitar, violin and bass. The composition by Marc Mellits is possibly the first of its kind, that being a contemporary classical work written by someone outside the genre for this instrumentation.
