Marley’s Ghost / Elle King on eTown . . and holiday wishes:
By Donna ~ December 28, 2012
Happy holidays, my friends. I’m down with a horrendous cold, so this will be quick.
I hope you’ve been having a little time off, that you are getting a chance to relax and enjoy wherever you are and whomever you are with. I have to say that so far, overall, it’s been a great holiday break this year; the least stress and the most peace I’ve experienced in years. That is, up to a point. Unfortunately, Christmas evening ended extremely poorly; Nick suffered a cut on his hand (freak accident as we were cleaning up after guests had left) bad enough to send him to the ER at 11pm to get seven stitches!
Yes, I said seven. FYI three is considered significant. Yikes. Poor guy. But he has such a great attitude. He totally blows me away. Just love the heck out of him. So grateful to have such an incredible partner in life. And he’s going to be all right.
So, back to you and relaxing over the holidays: I hope you’ll get a chance to put your feet up and relax while you take in this week’s eTown broadcast. It’s a good one:
First, we welcome long-time friends of the show (and of ours personally), Americana music veterans Marley’s Ghost. They first visited eTown nearly 20 years ago, during eTown’s second season, so this is a trip that’s long overdue. With decades of making music together, nine albums and hundreds of shows performed together around the globe, these old friends play so well together (their harmonies, for instance, remind me of siblings, so rich and so connected). They are definitely one of the best-kept secrets of the acoustic music world. But now the secret is out, at least for you if you tune in this week.
AND I’m so excited about our other musical guest; she’s definitely one of my all time favorite female performers around today. Elle King has a voice and a sound you won’t soon forget. She’s been described as “Billie Holiday having a shot of whiskey with Johnny Cash,” and I have to say that’s an apt description. Geez Louise, this gal is one talented, brilliant musician. She’s also an amazing person – so incredibly alive, extremely smart, sassy and outspoken, yet so kind (you just want her to move in and be your best friend/roommate combo). I predict this is one performer to watch; she is going far.
Once again, it’s an hour of great music, compelling conversation with the artists AND a really inspiring E-Chievement Award story for you, too, this week in eTown. Tune in!

Here’s to a great year in 2013.
