Happy New Year!! May it be a better one than 2012.
By Helen ~ January 3, 2013
What a year it’s been: The good, the bad, the ugly. And then some.
The bad and the ugly:
Terrible tragedies (the shootings in Newtown, Aurora and elsewhere, Hurricane Sandy and other environmental catastrophes). Frustrating stuff like the mind boggling gridlock in Congress (hello, does the word ‘statesman’ mean anything to you?), and, more frighteningly, blatant attempts by a small but wealthy group to both keep people from legally voting in the US election and buy the outcome with obscene amounts of money. The ongoing unrest in Iraq, Egypt, Syria and Afghanistan. So much more.
The outpouring of support around the world to those impacted by Sandy. More women than ever being elected to Congress. The Olympics. Watching attempts to block legal voters fail. Seeing the majority of the American public truly embrace the fact that global warming is a real and present danger (now let’s get going DOING something about it). Karl Rove and his cronies failing to buy the US election. The Mayan calendar coming to an end and the world not collapsing – did you seriously think it would? – and so many other stories, too numerous to name, of neighbor helping neighbor and stranger aiding stranger, demonstrating that good old American sense of teamwork and collaboration.
Speaking of collaboration (ooh, ouch, I apologize for the corny transition there), this week’s broadcast is full of it:
Second, Texas musical icon Joe Ely is back with us (what a thrill to share the stage with such a living legend; plus, he’s just the greatest guy you can imagine, so soft spoken and humble for one who has accomplished all he has these past several decades). We are honored to collaborate with him musically once again. Third, there’s this week’s E-Chievement Award story, which is all about a grassroots collaborative effort to provide hope and survival for those with cancer.
Fourth, the finale . . . well, you know.
We couldn’t be more pleased to offer you this first broadcast/podcast of the 2013 season.
Already, things are looking up.
