Good Stuff This Week, On the Air and in the Area of Justice:
By Helen ~ January 29, 2013
This week is a very special one: Dr. Jane Goodall returns to eTown for her second visit with us. Wow!!
She was one of our ‘Lifetime E-Chievement Award’ recipients more than a decade ago; this week she joins us for a chat with Nick, to catch us all up on the good works she’s doing these days on behalf of animals, people and the planet (she’s most recently focusing on inspiring children about the importance of sustainability, which is really cool).
I get absolutely tongue-tied around that woman. She is so intelligent and elegant and she’s my idol (I grew up as a terribly shy kid who related more to animals than people; I have admired her work for a very long time). What an absolute thrill to have her with us.
Our musical guests include one of my all-time favorite people to sing with, talented singer, writer and musician Reed Foehl, along with up-and-coming singer/songwriter and eTown newcomer Kat Edmonson, who is one of my ‘top ten’ favorite new female vocalists (Elle King and Kate Earl are also on that list, see my earlier blogs to hear about them as well – you should know about all of these artists, including Reed).
Reed makeshis second appearance on the show to preview music from his upcoming release of new material. A Boston native, based in Colorado since 1989, he began his musical career as the founding member and front man for the internationally acclaimed indie folk phenomenon Acoustic Junction. Since going solo, Reed has built his own personal fan base across the country, through concerts, commercial radio airplay and placements for television and film.
Kat Edmonson is a buoyant singer-songwriter from Texas whose tiny stature belies a powerful voice. And man oh man, what a voice it is – she sounds like a cross between Billy Holiday and an angel. Her delivery is awesome; she’ll make you weep I swear. And I know this is probably politically incorrect to say, but she’s as cute as a button too.
That’s this week in eTown. Pretty good stuff – don’t miss it.
In other good stuff this week, here’s the update on those elk killing coppers here in Boulder. They’ve been caught with their pants down so to speak; tons of texts between them (these were sent over several days previous to their dirty deed,) which spell out in no uncertain terms that this was a premeditated crime (yes, it is a crime in the state of Colorado to kill innocent wildlife with no cause, plus firing a shot gun in a residential neighborhood?). Both of these rogue cops have resigned. Personally, I wish they’d been fired. But they are in deep dog doo nonetheless, which is great news. I hope they throw the book at them. What a couple of heartless, ignorant idiots.
Sorry, don’t mean to get all feisty there. But hey, I’m Eastern European, we feel things deeply. Especially around justice being served.
Have a great week, y’all, catch you next week,
