Have Your Cake . . PART TWO! Plus Jared Polis Visits eTown Hall
By Helen ~ April 17, 2013
CAKE, Danny Barnes and Eliza Gilkyson join us for part two of this special version of ’eTown on the Road’. Nick and I and the eTown gang are happily hanging in the great state of Washington still, as part of ‘Celebrate Elwha’, a multi-day event to commemorate our nation’s largest dam removal project. (Again, the back-story: At the turn of the century, two privately owned dams were built on the Elwha River. The dams wreaked havoc on the native salmon population and the river’s eco-system, negatively impacting the local economy in the process; it’s been a several decade community effort to get these dams removed.)
We were so pleased to be invited by the event organizers to be part of the celebration, accompanied by three wonderful musical guests:
CAKE is a band of talented musicians who walk their talk when it comes to promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship of the earth. They return this week with more of their great original music.
Also in part two, we’re joined by ‘musician extraordinaire’ Danny Barnes. You probably know about him, since I rave about him all the time (most recently b/c of his musical collaboration with our own Nick Forster; visit YouTube and view videos of some of Nick and Danny’s duet concerts – incredible stuff). Danny is truly one of every musician’s favorite musician, so that tells you something right there.
And, elegant and outspoken writer/player/singer Eliza Gilkyson is back this week as well, plus an inspiring E-Chievement segment honoring a Washingtonian who’s doing good works out there. (To get a feel for this show, check out the videos included below.)
Last week Senator Mark Udall came by to tour eTown Hall. This week it was Jared Polis, who carved out time in his very busy schedule to come by for a visit. We were pleased to have him here and to show him the facilities. I think he had some fun doing so (check out the photo here, to see what I mean).
If you’re in the area, by all means please stop by, too we’d love to give you a tour!
