Short and Sweet: Here’s the scoop on this week’s show, airing the week of May 15 – May 21:
By Helen ~ May 15, 2013
Hi! Unfortunately I’m under the weather this week, so I will skip my usual musing and get right to this week’s program:
“Solas” is Gaelic for “light”; kind of perfect, really, when describing these guys and gals. Fifteen years ago they burst onto the Irish music scene like a meteorite. They’ve been dominating the scene ever since. You will love them – their musical prowess and their sheer energy onstage will get you up and moving wherever you are. Each and every one of them is incredibly brilliant. And a nicer bunch of folks you will never meet.
We’re equally excited about our other musical visitor: legendary songwriter Terry Allen (FYI this is his first appearance on eTown in over two decades!). In addition to eleven albums under his belt, Terry is also well known and deeply respected as a visual artist, with commissioned sculptures, installations, and public art works and gallery showings around the globe. Nick and I have a ton of friends in common with Terry, and it’s always so great to be with him; he has that smart yet easy-going Texan sense of humor and manner of communicating. (He happens to be on the other end of the political spectrum from ‘W’, which is another reason we like him).
As usual, we’ve got an inspiring E-Chievement Award story showcasing someone who’s gone above and beyond to make a difference in their community. (A bit of eTown trivia: Did you know that I produce the award segment? Yup, have since the beginning – it’s a big part of what keeps me engaged and excited every day, learning about and interacting with these incredible, humble individuals who see a problem of some kind and simply start by taking a step to help. Awesome.)
But I digress; let’s get back to this week’s show:
Be sure to tune in (and while you’re at it, check out the videos below from the show, too).
