Legendary artist Big Al Anderson in eTown . . and more
By Helen ~ August 20, 2013
Big Al Anderson is best known as one of the members of NRBQ (which stands for the New Rhythm and Blues Quintet), just about every working musician’s favorite band (Bonnie Raitt, Nick Forster and Keith Richards count themselves as huge fans for example). For 23 years, Al was lead guitarist, singer and writer in that band; then he split to pursue a solo career as a highly successful freelance songwriter and performer. He’s become a dear friend of mine and Nick’s, along with his lovely and incredible wife Maryanne Hill. Al is one of THE best guitar players, writers and singers in the world. There’s no one like him. He’s got a great signature sound, a powerful blend of soul, blues, country and rock, that I know you’ll love.
Cody and Luther Dickinson, also good friends of ours, visit us this week as a duo (they’re usually known as part of the North Mississippi Allstars, so this is a special, pared down treat). They’re known for their special, identifiable Southern blues sound; when you hear them you instantly know its them. They’re not only great, great musicians, they’re great people too (I know, lots of greats there). And I love the fact that they’re both avid eTown fans, (as is their mother!). So they have a unique perspective on what eTown stands for (see the videos below to catch Luther backstage, talking candidly about that very subject).
With an especially inspiring E-Chievement Award story, this is an eTown classic, brought back to you by popular demand. I hope you’ll join us, by broadcast or by podcast.
