A Horde of KILLER Vocalists on eTown This Week! PLUS An Important Thing to Consider Doing . .
By Helen ~ August 27, 2013
Great eTown broadcast this week with several incredible vocalists: Husband-and-wife team Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist return for their second visit to eTown as the Ohio-based duo Over the Rhine. Their recent studio album The Long Surrender was picked as one of the top 50 CDs of the year by Paste Magazine, with good reason (she is one of my favorite people I’ve ever gotten to sing with, a really stellar singer). Also with us: the hot new alternative-rock trio The Lone Bellow, playing acoustic-based “Brooklyn country music.” These three young performers also sing like crazy; they’re each really amazing, but put them together singing as a trio and man, they burn up the stage. Awesome. They already have an intense buzz going on about them in the music world – this is a group to be aware of!
In other thoughts:
Hey there’s this crazy thing going on right now: A certain political party in this country (which shall go nameless) is working hard to add a provision to the Farm Bill measure that’s up for renewal. Iowa Congressman Steve King’s added amendment (to this crucial bill) defies all reason and is completely devoid of any semblance of human kindness toward the animals suffering on factory farms. It would cancel any state regulations that protect animals, leaving them vulnerable to increased mistreatment. I can’t eloquently explain it myself, but check out Kathleen Parker’s concise and well written editorial in the Washington Post. Please consider learning as much as you can about this measure and form your own opinion. And, if so moved (and this being America where we speak our minds), you can choose to contact your Congressperson and tell them not to let this happen! You’re also free to pass this on to anyone you can think of who might also be inclined to do the same. Congress reconvenes September 9. It would be so great if they came back to a deluge of protests about this amendment. The power of individuals joining forces and stepping forward to make a strong statement can result in serious positive change.
I’m just sayin’ . . .
