Be Good Tanyas
With their music described as beguiling, haunting, rustic, ambient, hobo-erotica and even goth-folk, The Be Good Tanyas (Frazey Ford, Trish Klein, and Samantha Parton)
first met in the mountains of British Columbia at tree-planting camps and open-stages. After coming together as a band in Vancouver, they were joined by fellow traveler, singer/fiddler and Texas-born minstrel Jolie Holland. Bonded by their passion for old-tyme music and their love of vintage clothes they soon began performing everywhere they could from thrift stores, cafes, galleries and bars to the streets of East Vancouver, front porches and house parties.
In the spring of 2000, The Be Good Tanyas set out on the road to tour the United States and gigged their way through the heartland of the south and down to New Orleans. After touring, the group recorded their debut album “Blue Horse” in a friend’s small studio. Holland eventually left the group, but not before recording on a number of tracks – most notably “Lakes of Ponchartrain” and “The Littlest Birds,” which she co-wrote with Parton.
After the release of “Blue Horse,” the group continued to tour constantly around North America, the UK and Australia. Despite hectic touring schedules, they managed to find time to record their second, soon-to-be-released album, “Chinatown.”
