Blind Boys of Alabama

Clarence Fountain and THE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA have been singing God’s music for over 60 years. In the course of that time they’ve traveled the distance; from playing small tent shows to picking up three Grammy Award nominations. Along the way they’ve changed and added members, but they’ve never lost faith. From the group’s beginnings in the 1930′s, as fellow students at the Talladega Institute for the Deaf and Blind, in Alabama, to the present – Fountain and his friends have adopted the style of gospel singing known as jubilee and have taken their show to the road. The group’s latest album, “Higher Ground,” features both young and old souls. The original Blind Boys – Clarence Fountain, Jimmy Carter and George Scott, all in their seventies – are backed by pedal steel phenomenon Robert Randolph and his Family Band. Acclaimed singer and guitarist and e-town alum Ben Harper also contributes to three tracks. The result is an album that is traditional and playful, but always inspired.
