IanTyson
In the challenging show business world, Ian Tyson has managed to pull off two distinctly brilliant careers. Spanning three decades, Tyson has forged a trail of musical innovation. Starting his career in the early days of the folk movement with the legendary folk duo Ian and Sylvia in the 60′s, the trail has culminated with the seminal Cowboyography collection reaching platinum status in the mid 90′s.
At the age of 24, Tyson left behind a life of logging and rodeo in British Columbia and hitchhiked to Toronto. Swept into the folk boom, he formed the legendary singing duo of Ian and Sylvia. The couple married and recorded over a dozen classic albums, evolving into pioneers of country rock with their band Great Speckled Bird.
The duo and the marriage then dissolved. Disillusioned with the Canadian music scene, Tyson decided the time had come for him to return to his first love, training horses in southern Alberta. After three idyllic years ranching, Tyson recorded an album of cowboy songs at the urging of his new wife Twylla. This private album was met with an overwhelming response and another successful career was under way for Ian Tyson. Now with 40 plus years music making to his credit, Tyson remains the best singer and songwriter in Canadian country music.
