Indigo Girls

For years, their voices have soared in harmony like the voices of a Christmas choir. Now, more than two decades into their career, Grammy-award winning duo Indigo Girls – Amy Ray and Emily Saliers — have released their first holiday record.

‘Holly Happy Days,’ recorded in Nashville and produced by Peter Collins, is a 12-song collection that mixes beloved Christmas classics — including “O Holy Night,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “Angels We Have Heard on High” – with contemporary holiday songs, a Hanukkah song and three new originals written by Emily and Amy.

Making a holiday CD was something the Indigos had considered before, but the timing was never right. Earlier this year, Ray says, “We looked at each other and said, ‘It’s time to do it.’” They sifted through hundreds of tracks, arranged and rehearsed songs on the fly, and carved two weeks out of their hectic schedule to record in May.

The result: a warm, bluegrass-tinged CD that glows with the goodwill of the season.
