Sharing the stage with The Flatlanders is contemporary singer-songwriter Mindy Smith, who will join us fresh from the release of her debut album, One Moment More (Vanguard 2004). Well in advance of her debut effort, Mindy has garnered widespread critical acclaim, among her core audience as well as her peers: Alison Krauss recently recorded one of her songs; Lee Ann Womack invited Mindy to sing back up for her set at 2003’s SXSW; she appeared on the Lifetime Network’s Women Rock special; and, as the only newcomer to the all-female line-up, she offered her own arrangement of “Jolene” for the acclaimed tribute album, Just Because I’m A Woman, Songs of Dolly Patron (Sugar Hill 2003), for which her video appeared in high rotation on CMT. As Music Row describes, “Smith prove(s) how magical a singer can be with just a guitar/vocal arrangement… equally capable of a soft whisper or a throaty roar, she weaves emotionally charged lyrics through interesting melodies.”
