Jim James (vocals), Johnny Quaid (guitar), Two-Tone Tommy (bass), Danny Cash (keyboards) and Patrick Hallahan (drums) make up the five-piece band from Louisville, Ky., whose music combines restless experimentation, heartfelt emotion and unforgettable songs. The quintet is perhaps the most acclaimed new group to emerge form Mid-America in the past two years: New Musical Express called MMJ “the band to fall in love with in 2002.”

Since the release of the debut album The Tennessee Fire (Darla Records) in 1999, MMJ have issued a profusion of independent recordings including three EPs, a couple of seven-inch singes and several compilation tracks. Their latest offering is At Dawn (Darla Records, 2002), 13 tracks of memorable melodies and eclectic arrangements sparked by the soulful singing of Jim James. In addition to constant touring, the band is currently hard at work on their first album for a major label, ATO/RCA Records – a spring 2003 release is anticipated.
