Shawn Colvin
In an era when female singer-songwriters are ever more ubiquitous, Shawn Colvin stands out as a singular and enduring talent. Her songs are slow-release works of craft and catharsis that become treasured, lifetime companions for their listeners. As a storyteller, Colvin is both keen and warm-hearted, leavening even the toughest tales with tenderness, empathy, and a searing sense of humor. In the 19 years since the release of her debut album, Colvin has won three Grammy Awards, released eight albums, maintained a non-stop national and international touring schedule, appeared on countless television and radio programs, had her songs featured in major motion pictures, and created a remarkable cannon of work.
Cracker / Camper Van Beethoven
etown welcomes David Lowery and John Hickman in a special "acoustic Cracker/Camper" performance. At the time of their 1985 debut, Camper Van Beethoven's merging of punk, folk, ska, and world music was truly a revelation. Self-described as "surrealist absurdist folk," the band formed in Santa Cruz, CA. Shortly after Camper Van Beethoven called it quits in 1990, Lowery began demoing material along with guitarist Johnny Hickman and bassist Davey Faragher, eventually going by the name Cracker.
These two innovative musicians are coming to etown as a duo, utilizing the amazing house band, the etones, to bring both classic and new material to the stage and to etown's national radio audience.
