Jorma Kaukonen and Guggenheim Grotto, presented by 97.3 KBCO
Live Show: Sunday, May 24, 2009 7:00 pm Location: The Boulder Theater
Returning to Etown is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member and guitarist extraordinaire, Jorma Kaukonen along with his long-time musical partner Barry Mitterhoff on mandolin. Hosts Nick & Helen Forster and the Etones back Jorma up musically and vocally for an awesome set of bluesy Americana music. Then, Etown welcomes from Ireland an amazing musical duo, Guggenheim Grotto (Kevin May & Mick Lynch), who make their first visit. Nick, Ron, Chris and Christian lend their superb musical support to this pop duo's catchy original tunes, while Helen provides some stellar harmonies, too. Plus, there's an inspiring in-person E-Chievement Award this week, and a wonderfully creative finale tune that you just have to hear! Don't miss this week's Etown!
Jorma Kaukonen
In a career that has already spanned a half-century, Jorma Kaukonen has been the leading practitioner and teacher of fingerstyle guitar, one of the most highly respected interpreters of American roots music, blues, and Americana, and at the forefront of popular rock-and-roll. He was a founding member of two legendary bands, The Jefferson Airplane and the still-touring Hot Tuna, a Grammy nominee, and a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Guggenheim Grotto
"...one of the year's most promising new acts..." - Washington Post
"...a spine tingling effect that I haven't experienced since I heard Simon & Garfunkel's 'Bookends' album for the first time." - Irish Voice
Starting out on the Dublin songwriter circuit Guggenheim Grotto has quickly built a devoted cult following in the U.S. with warm embraces from media and competitive iTunes charting. The band has captivated audiences and tastemakers on both sides of the pond with its mix of poetic, often literature-inspired lyrics set to timeless, soaring pop melodies.
