eTown Holiday in New York with Tori Amos and Loudon Wainwright III, presented in association with Bowery Presents
Live Show: Monday, Dec 07, 2009 8:00 pm Location: The Grand Ballroom at Manhattan Center
Nick & Helen Forster and the whole eTown crew go 'on the road' to New York City and the Grand Ballroom for this special holiday themed program. With virtuoso pianist and singer Tori Amos making her first ever eTown appearance, this show is guaranteed to get you in the spirit, featuring lovely, stripped down tunes from Tori's new seasonal CD. Also joining us is veteran singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III, back again in eTown. Nick & Helen and the ETones join Loudon instrumentally and vocally on a tune or two. Plus there's an inspiring E-Chievement Award interview in store highlighting a NYC man who wants to 'green' that whole city! There's a rousing holiday finale song featuring, as usual, all the performers to wrap up the show. So, tune into to eTown this week for this one-of-a-kind holiday show, with great music, important information and more.
Tori Amos
Tori Amos is foremost among the artists who have redefined the role of women in music in the last decades. Her piano-based music revived that instrument in rock and roll, and her complex yet accessible songs have pushed the parameters of song writing. Since the double-platinum success of her solo debut, Little Earthquakes, in 1992, Amos's albums and tours have reached millions of listeners worldwide. The artist has sold in excess of 12 million albums and has been nominated for eight Grammy awards.
Loudon Wainwright III
As Loudon Wainwright III says in his own words' "I've been a singer-songwriter for 35 years. I get paid to stand up in front of people, play the guitar, and sing songs to them that I write." Loudon's three favorite topics are family, the passage of time and death. Mr. Wainwright has been twice nominated for a Grammy award, was an actual participant in the Haight Ashbury Summer of Love, 1967, and "has sired several beautiful and talented children" (again the artist's own words). His latest recorded work (his 23rd album) is the magnificent "High Wide and Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project"
