After she ran a holiday food drive for her eldest son’s Cub Scouts troop, Sharon became concerned about hunger in her area. She decided she wouldn’t let any kids go to bed hungry if she could help it. In 1983 Sharon started a year round food pantry out of her garage with the promise that she would never turn anyone away who was in need of food. Since then, Sunshine Pantry has evolved into a model organization that provides its clients choice in their meals: from fresh produce and prepared foods, to birthday cakes and options for people with food allergies. So far the pantry has given out well over 1 million meals!
