E-Chievement Award: Don Schierling

This encore broadcast is dedicated to the memory of blues legend, Koko Taylor. In this, one of her last recorded performances, Koko Taylor — the undisputed ‘Queen of the Blues’ — and her Blues Machine, energize the historic Chautauqua Auditorium (where this program was originally taped in 2008) with several of her classic blues hits. Etown host Nick Forster’s and Koko’s in-depth conversation reveals little known facts about her upbringing, as well as providing an in-depth and personal look at her deep history in the blues genre. Also included in this program is blues and boogie-woogie piano pioneer Pinetop Perkins, still performing in his nineties. He’s joined by long-time musical partner Willie ‘Big Eyes’ Smith and Etown’s crack house band, the Etones, for some ‘bring the house down’ tunes. The E-Chievement Award goes to a senior citizen whose efforts to address the housing needs of elderly and disabled in his community will surely move you. Don’t miss this week’s historic episode of Etown.
