eTown ventures back to Fort Collins’ Lincoln Center once again, for a very special live radio show taping featuring New Orleans legendary icon Dr. John, along with The 3 Twins.
It’s been seven years since Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Mac Rebennack (AKA Dr. John) made his first visit to eTown in 2005; just months before Hurricane Katrina submerged the town that gave birth to his unique stew of sound. After the storm and government bungles bashed New Orleans in 2005, Dr. John immediately stepped up to the plate with both generous relief fund-raising concerts and recordings and angry public words of protest. In 2008 he released “City That Care Forgot,” an album that won him a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Dr. John will make his second stop in eTown on the heels of his latest record, Locked Down, proving once again that his unique blend of voodoo mysticism, rhythm & blues, and Creole-rooted psychedelic rock is not only still intact, but thriving. Locked Down finds Dr. John teaming up with producer and Black Keys guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach and a host of younger musicians to create what the LA Times has called “one of the best albums of his career…the embodiment of everything he’s ever done, but pushed in a clear new direction.”
Also appearing at the taping will be New Orleans-to-Fort Collins transplants, The 3 Twins. Perhaps better known for their work in the critically acclaimed group, the subdudes, John Magnie, Steve Amedee and Tim Cook are three of eTown’s original artist veterans. The subdudes performed at eTown’s very first taping in 1991, and have since appeared on the show seven times during eTown’s 21-year history. The 3 Twins formed as a side project in 1998, and has since taken on multiple musical personalities as both a trio, as well as a larger ensemble known as The 3 Twins BroadBand.
More than just a typical concert, each eTown taping is a unique live entertainment event that combines musical performance, information and inspiring conversation. In addition to lots of great music, the event will also feature a special E-Chievement Award story, a trademark staple of each and every eTown taping, highlighting one of the show’s listeners who has gone above and beyond to make a positive difference in their community.
