eTown hosts Nick and Helen Forster welcome up-and-coming British act The Dunwells and Texas legend Joe Ely, for an intimate evening of music and conversation at eTown Hall.
In just two short years, The Dunwells have managed to transport their music from the pubs, clubs and open mic nights of Leeds, England to the hearts and minds of listeners in the United States. From the first time The Dunwells hit American shores at the 2011 International Folk Alliance conference, their impact has been nothing short of astounding. The five-piece group, comprised of a combination of brothers, cousins and friends, seamlessly melds elements of Celtic and American folk, rock, blues, pop and soul into a trademark sound all their own. The band’s upcoming debut album, Blind Sighted Faith, was recorded at Willie Nelson’s famed Pedernales Studio outside of Austin, and is sure to further the band’s momentum that has already catapulted them onto to the stage with such artists as Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Mumford and Sons.
Joining The Dunwells this evening will be legendary Texas musician Joe Ely. Perhaps best know as a founding member of the prolific group The Flatlanders, and band that has made several stops in eTown during the program’s 21 years, Ely’s genre-crossing career has found him performing with everyone from Bruce Springsteen, Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett and even The Clash. Along with his work with The Flatlanders and other bands, Ely has also been recording on his own for more than three decades now. Ely will make this stop in eTown to share some of his latest solo musical explorations, and road stories from his long and fruitful career.
More than just a typical concert, each eTown taping is a unique live entertainment event that combines musical performance, information and inspiring conversation. In addition to lots of great music, the event will also feature a special E-Chievement Award story, a trademark staple of each and every eTown taping, highlighting one of the show’s listeners who has gone above and beyond to make a positive difference in their community.
