eTown hosts Nick and Helen Forster welcome back long-time friend of the show, singer/songwriter/guitar virtuoso Robert Cray, along with New Orleans rocker Anders Osborne for an evening of music, conversation and community.
Robert Cray’s love for soul and blues music began at an early age, when the one-time aspiring architect picked up a guitar and started emulating heroes, such as Albert Collins, Freddie King and Muddy Waters, he had seen in concert and heard on records during his early teens. In the 1978 film, National Lampoon’s Animal House, Cray was the uncredited bassist in the house party band Otis Day and the Knights. After several years of regional success on the West Coast, Cray was signed to Mercury Records in 1982. Now with more than 35 years of recording and performing under his belt, five Grammies, two signature guitar models from Fender and a 2011 induction into the Blues Hall of Fame, Cray’s musical trajectory is showing no signs of slowing down. He has played with everyone from Eric Clapton to John Lee Hooker, and still continues to find time to stop in eTown for a visit every few years.

Joining Robert Cray at the taping will be eTown newcomer Anders Osborne. Since the release of his 2010 Alligator Records debut, American Patchwork, Anders Osborne has toured virtually non-stop, performing with his own band, solo with Keb Mo, with The Stanton Moore Trio, alongside Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and with Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars. In 2011, Osborne produced and played on critically acclaimed albums by Tab Benoit, Johnny Sansone and Mike Zito. New Orleans’ OffBeat magazine recently named Osborne the Crescent City’s Best Guitarist for the second straight year, and also awarded him with the Best Roots Rock Artist title. Osborne will make his first stop in eTown on the heels of the release of his latest collection of material from his still-unfolding career, Black Eye Galaxy.
More than just a typical concert, each eTown taping is a unique live entertainment event that combines musical performance, information and inspiring conversation. In addition to lots of great music, the event will also feature a special E-Chievement Award story, a trademark staple of each and every eTown taping, highlighting one of the show’s listeners who has gone above and beyond to make a positive difference in their community.
