eTown continues to bend the rules in it’s 21st season with a very special radio show taping featuring two of the hottest, emerging Indie Rock groups currently on the international touring circuit. On April 1, eTown hosts Nick and Helen Forster welcome Young The Giant and Civil Twilight for debut performances in eTown. This one-of-a-kind live radio show taping will afford attendees a rare, up-close-and-personal experience with both visiting artists, through music and conversation.
Hailing from separate states, countries and continents before meeting 55 minutes south of Los Angeles in Irvine, California as teenagers, Young The Giant’s addictive, hooky songs and varietal nationalities have already taken the group an incredible distance in just three short years of writing, recording and performing as a band. The combination of the individual members’ various nationalities forms a French Canadian-Persian-British-Indian-Italian musical melting pot with a sound all its own. Already, the band has performed in front of hundreds of thousands of fans across the globe, sold out an entire United Kingdom tour in less than six hours, reached millions views on YouTube and racked up soaring accolades from outlets like The New York Times, Spin and Nylon in the process.
Joining Young The Giant will be South African transplants, Civil Twilight, who will also be making their debut performance in eTown. With a sound that has been compared to that of early U2, Civil Twilight’s blend of atmospherics and hazy storytelling has been said to transport the listener to another place. Originally hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, brothers Andrew and Steven McKellar enlisted the help of a fellow high school classmate, drummer Richard Wouters, to round out the trio’s unique sound. Since relocating to Nashville, Tennessee, the band has performed at the legendary Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, while also enjoying the exposure from having music on various television shows such as One Tree Hill, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Harper’s Island.
More than just a typical concert, each eTown taping is a unique live entertainment event that combines musical performance, information and inspiring conversation. In addition to lots of great music, the event will also feature a special E-Chievement Award story, a trademark staple of each and every eTown taping, highlighting one of the show’s listeners who have gone above and beyond to make a positive difference in their community.
