eTown welcomes two new artists to the fold for this special live broadcast/podcast taping of eTown, featuring the Oakland indie rock group, Rogue Wave, and folk artist Aoife O’Donovan.
As the brainchild of Zach Schwartz (a.k.a. Zach Rogue), Rogue Wave’s beginnings can be traced back to Schwartz losing his job in the dot.com industry and heading to New York City to record some of the music he had written. Upon his return to California, Schwartz was set on a career in music and began to put the band together that would become Rogue Wave. While the band has gone through a number of line-up changes since their original formation, the songwriting and on stage persona of the band has continued to win over fans for more than a decade now. There’s a good chance you’ve heard Rogue Wave’s sound without even knowing it, as the band’s has received prominent placement in a variety of television shows, movies and commercials. We are excited to have Zach, and the current lineup with us at eTown Hall, for their first visit!
Also joining Rogue Wave at the taping will be another eTown newcomer, folk singer/songwriter Aoife O’Donovan. Aoife (pronounced “ee-fuh”) honed her one-of-a-kind sound by diving into Irish and American folk styles as a young girl, and dialing them in further as a student of contemporary improvisation at the acclaimed New England Conservatory. Upon graduation, she hit the road as the lead singer and principal songwriter/song-finder of Crooked Still, which grew into one of the world’s most acclaimed progressive string groups over the ensuing decade. The stunning versatility and appeal of her voice brought her to the attention of some of the most eminent names in music and led to collaborations across a wide variety of genres with everyone from Alison Krauss to Dave Douglas, along with a role as vocalist on the Grammy-winning Goat Rodeo Sessions alongside Chris Thile, Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer and Stuart Duncan.
