Last month, we hosted Joe Pug as part of our new series of concert events at eTown Hall. We were so blown away with his music that we decided to bring him back again – this time for a live radio show taping to be broadcast in an upcoming episode of eTown’s syndicated radio variety show and podcast. If you missed Joe’s concert at eTown Hall the first time around, we highly recommend making it down to the taping if you are in our neck of the woods on May 23.
It’s been 4 years since Joe Pug quit his day job as a carpenter, but his remarkable rise in the music world has been driven by the same hard-worn work ethic. His path has been an unusual one, which has often challenged the traditional rulebook of the music industry, but it has always been characterized by one prevailing idea: Find a way.
It was in those heady early days that the idea was born for a unique promotional strategy that would launch Pug into the national consciousness. In an increasingly fragmented and disorganized music industry, it was harder and harder for a new artist to break through the white noise. With no publicist and no access to radio, Pug decided to recruit his fans to help spread the word by giving his music away for free. It appears to have worked well for him, and we’re certainly glad he’ll be back with us at this taping!
Also joining us this evening is long-time friend of the show Anais Mitchell, who’ll be bringing along her musical companion, and former Coloradoan (now living in Brooklyn) Jefferson Hamer, to share music from their latest collection of duo recordings, entitled Child Ballads.
It’s an evening of music and conversation with both new and old friends, plus a great E-Chievement Award story – all in one – right here at eTown Hall!
This is an upcoming show that will be taped on May 23, 2013. Please check back later to listen to the show audio.
