eTown welcomes back singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson for a very special live radio taping of the internationally syndicated radio variety program, featuring music and conversation at the newly renovated eTown Hall.
Platinum-selling artist Matt Nathanson’s second visit to eTown will offer fans and eTown listeners an up-close-and-personal experience much different than the larger venues he’s grown accustomed to playing over the years. Since releasing his first record in 1993, Nathanson’s nearly two-decade long career has taken him just about everywhere a musician can go. His songs have been heard in multiple TV shows and movies, and his hard work ethic when it comes to touring has earned him legions of enthusiastic fans everywhere. Matt’s blend of American folk and rock music is a sound all its own, and he’ll make this stop in eTown to share music and the inspirations behind his new album, Modern Love, which hit the shelves and online music outlets on June 21.
In addition to Matt Nathanson, Americana singer/songwriter, poet and multi-instrumentalist Robert Francis will be making his first stop in eTown to share music from his label debut on Vanguard Records, Strangers In The First Place. For Robert Francis, music began at an early age and just keeps going. He began taking piano lessons before his toes could reach the foot pedals, and started learning to play guitar when he was seven years old. Two years later, Ry Cooder gave him his first guitar, a vintage National Steel. In his teens Red Hot Chili Pepper’s John Frusciante took him on as his only student and a few years later, he released his first recordings at age 19. His musical prowess stems both from his genes and his upbringing. While Francis’ father is a producer, pianist and collector who has single-mindedly devoted his life to classical music, his own personal musical epiphany occurred at a birthday party for actor Harry Dean Stanton – a story he will perhaps elaborate on during the interview portion of this eTown taping.
More than just a typical concert, each eTown taping is a unique live entertainment event that combines musical performance, information and inspiring conversation. In addition to lots of great music, the event will also feature a special E-Chievement Award story, a trademark staple of each and every eTown taping, highlighting one of the show’s listeners who has gone above and beyond to make a positive difference in their community.
