eTown hosts Nick and Helen Forster continue to heat things up during the 2012 season of live radio show tapings, with long time friends of the show the North Mississippi Allstars and prolific singer/songwriter/musician Big Al Anderson.

Growing up in Mississippi near Memphis, TN, Luther and Cody Dickinson have had a life-long experience in music.  The brothers soaked up the music of their father, acclaimed musician and renowned producer Jim Dickinson, and absorbed the North Mississippi Blues legacy while playing and shaking it down at the juke joints with their blues ancestors. In 1996, inspired by the Mississippi Hill Country Blues tradition of local heroes RL Burnside, Fred McDowell, Junior Kimbrough, and Otha Turner, the Dickinson brothers added bass player Chris Chew and formed the North Mississippi Allstars.

Now with more than a decade of touring under their belts, five studio albums, three Grammy nominations, and stints with side projects such as Luther’s membership in the Black Crowes, and Cody’s recent collaboration with eTown host Nick Forster in the super group, 30db, the boys are back for a visit with lots of new music and stories to share. This stop in eTown will mark the first time that the Dickinson brothers have appeared on the show as a duo, sans bass player Chris Chew. As the Duo, Cody and Luther have toured extensively with Robert Plant & the Band of Joy, played many major festival stages and released a live record, entitled Live In The Hills.

Joining North Mississippi Allstars Duo, will be the legendary Big Al Anderson. Recognized on Nashville’s Music Row as one of those elite writers of country songs who consistently pens hit after hit, Big Al’s songs have been recorded by everyone from Hank Williams Jr., George Jones and Vince Gill, to Jimmy Buffett and Leann Rimes. Anderson is best known for his 23-years of playing guitar in the iconic and notoriously eclectic rock band NRBQ (New Rhythm and Blues Quartet), who made a stop in eTown back in 1997.  An expert at blurring the lines between Country, Rock, Blues and Soul, Big Al Anderson will make his first solo stop in eTown on the heels of his newest release, entitled Pawn Shop Guitars.

More than just a typical concert, each eTown taping is a unique live entertainment event that combines musical performance, information and inspiring conversation. In addition to lots of great music, the event will also feature a special E-Chievement Award story, a trademark staple of each and every eTown taping, highlighting one of the show’s listeners who have gone above and beyond to make a positive difference in their community.

“Give me a great theater and the North Mississippi Allstars kicking things off, and I’m gone.”
- Robert Plant
