Listen This week, hosts Nick and Helen Forster welcome two world-class Americana groups to eTown Hall for their first appearances on the show. Born in the heartland of America, guitar-plucking troubadour Pokey LaFarge has been hitching through the countryside and whisking off to faraway lands ever since he was a teenager. Accompanied by his band, the South City Three, Pokey LaFarge takes the eTown audience on a musical journey through the sounds of America’s past in a way that makes it almost impossible to believe these guys are still in their 20s. Shovels & Rope, a Charleston, South Carolina-based duo consisting of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, also join us. This husband and wife duo stirs up a righteous racket with a one-of-a-kind sound made with old guitars, harmonicas, soulful singing and a junkyard drum kit. Our in-person E-Chievement Award interview rounds out this week’s stellar musical guests, as we catch up with Denis Hayes, environmental activist and co-founder of Earth Day. It’s one you won’t want to miss. All this week in eTown.
