eTown continues to prove its on a roll in its 21st season, as hosts Nick and Helen Forster welcome another pairing of independently-spirited artists for a live radio shaping taping featuring lots of great music, conversation and collaboration. On April 15, eTown welcomes the Infamous Stringdusters and Denver-based singer/songwriter Zach Heckendorf for debut appearances on the show.
With just five years under its hood as a band, The Infamous Stringdusters have already traveled a great distance from their beginnings in Nashville, Tennessee. The band received multiple accolades at the 2007 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards, including Emerging Artists of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. In addition, the band’s song, “Magic #9,” was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Country Instrumental category just last year. Through it all, the band’s ‘do-it-yourself’ approach has led to the creation of its own record label, a successful music festival and a dedicated fan base that’s willing to help raise money for a new album, assist the group in reinventing the concert experience that will follow and supporting environmental groups along the way. All in all, a perfect match for eTown.
Joining The Infamous Stringdusters, will be Denver-based singer/songwriter Zach Heckendorf. At the young age of 18, Heckendorf is already making waves and winning fans across the country. His music recently caught the ear of eTown veteran Brett Dennen, who ended up producing Heckendorf’s debut album, The Cool Down, and even invited Zach onstage during a recent performance in Denver. While 2012 marks the first year that Heckendorf will tour nationally, he’s already racked up performances alongside Jakob Dylan, Brandi Carlile, John Butler Trio and the Barenaked Ladies, and even landed a coveted gig in front of thousands at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater.
Unlike a typical concert, each eTown taping is a unique live entertainment event that combines musical performance, information and inspiring conversation. The evening will also feature a special E-Chievement Award story, a trademark staple of each and every eTown taping that highlights one of the shows listeners who has gone above and beyond to make a positive difference in their community.
