Barry Shapiro Band - Visionary Folk Rock

The Barry Shapiro Band - eTown

The Barry Shapiro Band sound ricochets back and forth between the 1970’s and today; creating a dynamic blend of original folk-rock music birthed in travel, heartbreak and love.

Barry Shapiro is on a mission to save us from the struggles and pain of our lives through song, whether solo or with his band. The singer-songwriter from New York creates infectious compositions reminiscent of 1970’s Folk, Country and Americana, all of which are laced with positive, inspiring messages. “My vision,” he says, “is to create beautiful songs with universal appeal that inspires individuals to unleash their own creativity."

Shapiro’s career began in Boston, not as a musician, but as a group psychotherapist where he worked with emotionally troubled teens. It was during this time, witnessing profound human suffering, that he was inspired to write music. Shapiro had written and performed before but now his talents would take on an importance on the same level as his work at outpatient treatment clinics. “I believe that music is an important way to create positive changes in the world,” he explains, “through a sound that transcends language, culture and philosophy.”

He recorded his full-length debut album called In Remission in 2000, which delivers the healing power of raw ballads and rhythmic progressions, in 2005 he released Beacon Street, a folksy collection soulful melodies inspired by life in New England and this year Barry and his band released Boardwalk Rain, a highly personal glimpse into life, love and meaning. Fans and critics fall in love with his Cat-Stevens meets Jim Croce meets Bob Dylan vibe.

However, there is no denying his unique eclectic style.

His albums are packed with songs that transport his fans to another time and place. His songs “Voices” and ‘”Into The Light” urge listeners to move beyond their differences and become healing forces in the world. Other tracks focus on Shapiro’s experiences across the country. A traveling musician, Barry has been featured on stage at The Bitter End in New York City, The Elbo Room in Chicago and The Highliner in Seattle. Closer to home Barry has opened at The Boulder Theater, headlined at The Walnut Room with his Beacon Street Band in Denver, and has twice been the featured artist on Channel 57’s Friday Night Live.

Shapiro is most proud of his song “Say Shalom,” which appears on his second album. He wrote the song after visiting Israel with his father. Shapiro’s grandparents and relatives escaped the fate of a Nazi concentration camp and went into hiding before fleeing to Israel after the Second World War. “This is my song for peace,” he explains, “in the Middle East and throughout the world.”

Besides being a musician, Shapiro is also the founder of The Shapiro Consulting Group, an innovative Leadership Development firm based on the premise, “Ultimately, the world’s problems will be solved through effectively facilitated conversations.” Here, Barry partners with leaders to deepen their impact on people, process, and businesses.

Barry supports the Karis Community, an extraordinary treatment center that helps adults with mental illness recover from the devastating impact of their symptoms. A portion of the proceeds from his sale of CD’s and the income from his performances is donated to this cause, which affects one percent of adults around the world.

Barry and his wife Lydia, for whom the song Omnia, Vincit Amor was inspired, live in downtown Denver and regularly sing funny lullaby’s to their beautiful new baby, Sophia Rose.

Sean Kelly of The Samples (Solo)

Sean Kelly - The Samples - eTown

25 years after starting his full fledged music career with The Samples, Sean Kelly continues to delight fans with music that transcends genres, age and shatters the rules of the established music industry. Throughout his career, Sean has been the driving influence of 20 albums and over 1 million records sold.

Sean started playing guitar at age 16 listening to Neil Young, Rolling Stones and Jackson Browne. Those influences mixed with his own poignant and timeless lyrics, a unique and striking voice and a mind for melodies led to songs like Little Silver Ring, Feel Us Shaking and Wild River. For many fans, these aren’t new songs or old songs, but anthems to their lives that represent the first time they met their wife or the joys of their times at college.

The Samples are more than a band – they represent a culture of fans and music that go beyond who happens to be playing in the band at any given time. There have been many members of The Samples, but Sean Kelly has been the consistent factor throughout all of the changes.

Sean’s journeys across America have taken place in rental cars, tour buses and pickup trucks that would have literally taken him to the moon and back over the last quarter of a century. There is a lot of music in store in 2013 and beyond from Sean Kelly and The Samples.
