This week, we travel back in time to revisit a show from 2024 that brought Hurray For The Riff Raff to eTown Hall. This show features a special acoustic duo version of the group consisting of Alynda Segarra and accompanying guitarist Johnny Wilson. Sharing the stage is Peter One, originally from Africa and now located in Nashville. eTown host Nick Forster also has a sit-down with members of the Green Grad Buffs who share their ideas about repurposing a defunct coal-fired power plant in Denver.
Hurray for the Riff Raff makes its first eTown appearance with Alynda Segarra joined by guitarist Johnny Wilson for a stripped-down set of songs from 2024’s The Past Is Still Alive. The album draws deeply from Alynda’s own life, including leaving the Bronx at 17 and riding freight trains across the country. The record earned an Album of the Year nomination at the Americana Honors & Awards, and those songs return on their first live album, 2026’s Live Forever.
Originally from Côte d’Ivoire and now based in Nashville, Peter One found musical success across West Africa in the 1980s before moving to the United States and becoming a nurse. Decades later, a reissue of his Our Garden Needs Its Flowers earned praise from Pitchfork and Rolling Stone, introducing his music to a new audience and starting an unexpected second chapter in his musical career.
Plus, Nick talks with Emily Cummins and Thomas Hill of CU Boulder’s Green Grad Buffs about their award-winning proposal to reimagine Denver’s decommissioned Zuni Generating Station.
