Celebrating 34 years of music, ideas, & community on the radio
Tom Rush, Marfa and interview guest Brad Feld

What happens when an octogenarian, a tech titan, and two young singer-songwriters walk into a bar… or onto a stage? Well, that’s what’s happening this week on eTown with legendary songwriter Tom Rush, rising Americana band Marfa and our interview guest, Brad Feld.

Tom Rush is a foundational voice in American folk music whose career has shaped generations of songwriters. Known for his distinctive guitar style, warm, expressive voice and wry storytelling, his performances balance humor, tender ballads and gritty blues. A key figure in the folk revival of the 1960s and the singer-songwriter renaissance that followed, he helped introduce early audiences to artists such as Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. His Elektra release The Circle Game is widely credited with ushering in the singer-songwriter era. Through his Club 47 concerts, he has long championed emerging artists, creating a bridge between musical generations. Now based in Massachusetts, he continues to perform and write with a voice that has grown richer with time.

Born from Texas roots forged in Colorado and inspired by the spirit of Laurel Canyon, Marfa delivers harmony-driven Americana that feels both familiar and fresh. Their debut single, “66,” produced by Nick Waterhouse and recorded at EastWest Studios, set the tone for a road-ready sound grounded in melody and feel. Follow-up releases produced by Josh Block expand that palette, with upcoming work produced by Jonathan Wilson continuing their rise.

Brad Feld is an early-stage investor, entrepreneur and author who has helped shape the modern startup ecosystem as a co-founder of Foundry Group, Mobius Venture Capital and Techstars. Alongside his wife, Amy Batchelor, he co-leads the Anchor Point Foundation, which supports organizations working across arts education, environmental stewardship, health and human services, social justice and advocacy for women and girls.
