Bluegrass legend Peter Rowan joins Nick, Helen, and the Etones at eTown this week to play some classic tunes as well as more recent originals. Also on stage are the young, and super-talented, AJ Lee and Blue Summit who represent the healthy and vibrant future of Bluegrass Music. In addition, Nick spends some extra time chatting with Peter as he shares stories from his nearly sixty years in the business and on the road.
Peter Rowan
Grammy-award winner and member of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame Peter Rowan is a singer-songwriter with a career spanning over five decades. From his early years playing under the tutelage of Bluegrass veteran Bill Monroe, to his time in Old & In the Way and his breakout as a solo musician and bandleader, Rowan has built a devoted, international fan base through a solid stream of recordings, collaborative projects, and constant touring.
Peter’s most recent album release, Calling You From My Mountain, received a 2022 Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album.
AJ Lee & Blue Summit
AJ Lee & Blue Summit is a California band that specializes in bluegrass, americana, country, and folk music.
Although falling loosely under the bluegrass label, AJLBS generally plays sans banjo, with Sullivan Tuttle and Scott Gates on steel stringed acoustic guitars, AJ on mandolin, Jan Purat on fiddle, and Chad Bowen on upright bass – a configuration effectively used to create unique space and texture in the arrangements not as commonly found in the music of their peers. Drawing from influences such as country, soul, swing, rock, and jam music, the band uses the lens of bluegrass as a vessel through which to express and explore the thread that binds and unifies all great music.
