This week, we travel back in time to revisit a show that brought Hurray For The Riff Raff to eTown Hall.
This show features a special acoustic duo version of the group consisting of Alynda Segarra and accompanying guitarist Johnny Wilson. Sharing the stage is Peter One, originally from Africa and now located in Nashville.
Nick also has a sit down with members of the Green Grad Buffs who share their ideas about re-purposing a defunct coal-fired power plant in Denver.
Alynda is the force behind Hurray for the Riff Raff, blending folk, punk, and Americana into fearless, deeply personal music. Raised in the Bronx by a working-class Puerto Rican family, they came of age in New York’s punk and queer scenes before hitting the road at 17, eventually finding creative roots in New Orleans. Over the past decade, Alynd has become a vital voice in modern folk, earning acclaim from NPR, Pitchfork, and Rolling Stone. Their 2024 album, The Past Is Still Alive, is a raw, poetic portrait of grief, survival and radical self-expression.
Peter One is a Côte d’Ivoire-born, Nashville-based artist blending West African and American folk traditions. Rediscovered in 2018, he released a joyful, cross-cultural solo album in 2023 to critical acclaim. A former star across West Africa in the 1980s, he continues to inspire with songs rooted in resilience, melody, and hope.
