This week we dig into the archives to revisit Part Two of two broadcasts from a great show featuring the legendary Bob Weir. Bob shares some amazing stories with Nick and plays some classic as well as more recent tunes. Also on stage, the Grammy-nominated, Oklahoma native, John Fullbright performs some of his raw, Americana-flavored songs.
Bob Weir needs no introduction. He is one of the founding members of the legendary Grateful Dead. Since establishing the band in 1965, Bob has become one of rock’s most distinctive rhythm guitarists. The band received a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award and remains one of the highest-grossing concert attractions in the US. He is also a member of Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros and Dead & Company. In 2022, the band released Live in Colorado, a vinyl collection recorded at Red Rocks and Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. In addition to his significant music accoladaes, Bob is a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador and Les Paul Spirit Award recipient.
John Fullbright is a critically lauded songwriter who first broke through with Songs in 2014, known for mining personal angst and lyrical precision. After an eight-year hiatus, he returned with The Liar, recorded in Tulsa with longtime collaborators, marking a shift toward musical community, looseness, and collaboration. “If you can’t say it, you don’t have to,” he sings on “Bearden 1645.” Since Songs, John moved from Bearden to Tulsa, building a place in a vibrant musical coterie. The Liar was recorded in Oklahoma with “the usual suspects.” “What rules didn’t I have?” John says. “It’s so much more fun to collaborate.” He’s still telling essential truths, but this time they’re a little more slant. “Short answer: yes,” John says. “I’m the hero.”
