Celebrating 34 years of music, ideas, & community on the radio
Donavon Frankenreiter, Donovan Woods and interview guest Zara Alexandra

This week, Donavon Frankenreiter joins us from Hawaii and spreads all the chill beach vibes. From the great Canadian city of Toronto comes Donovan Woods to share his intimate brand of singer-songwriting. Nick also has a conversation with Zara Alexandra, (a singer-songwriter herself) who is the Organizer of the Colorado Chapter of the National Young Farmers Coalition, about the joys and challenges of working the land in these contemporary times.

Donavon Frankenreiter was once a professional surfer chasing waves around the globe. He now channels that same spirit of adventure into his music. With his 2024 album Get Outta Your Mind, released twenty years after his self-titled debut, he marks two decades of turning concert halls into places of joy and connection.

Donovan Woods appears with songs as unflinching as they are tender. The JUNO Award-winning songwriter has earned a devoted following for his honesty, and his latest record, Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now, finds him opening up further than ever before. Through sparse arrangements and sharp storytelling, he lays bare the complexities of life and the resilience found in facing them.

And rounding out the show is Zara Alexandra, who has spent much of her life working on farms and ranches. Now based in southern Colorado, she sees her role not just as a songwriter but as someone encouraging younger generations to reconnect with the land, the cycles of work and the lessons that farming offers about resilience, gratitude and community.
