Matt Butler and Everyone Orchestra at eTown Hall
Matt Butler joined us as eTown’s very first Artist-in-Residence, bringing together an extraordinary mix of artists and community members to celebrate the spirit of improvisation and connection that defines eTown. Below are some highlights from a truly inspiring week.

eTown Radio Taping
The week began with Matt appearing on a live taping on November 2, where he joined host Nick Forster for a conversation and preview of his ever-evolving project, Everyone Orchestra. Under Matt’s direction, spontaneous songs take shape in real time, making something wholly unique.
Live Concert
On Tuesday, November 4, Matt led Everyone Orchestra and a roster of talented musicians for a concert featuring: Nick Forster of eTown, Keith Moseley of The String Cheese Incident, Holly Bowling on keyboards, Bridget Law of Elephant Revival, Ross James of Terrapin Family Band, Scotty Zwang of Umphrey’s McGee and vocalist Kamika Moore.
Each player contributed their voice to a larger whole, capturing the heart of Everyone Orchestra and a goal of our residency: music as a living conversation.
Time In The Studio
Between performances, the ensemble spent time in eTown’s world-class recording studio. They spent time writing and recording (and experimenting) at their own pace and on their own terms. The musicians are absolute standouts and include:
Dan Africano (Thievery Corporation) – bass
Matt Jalbert (Tauk) – guitar
Matt Butler – drums
At Fairview High School in Boulder
Matt also spent time with students at Fairview High School here in Boulder, highlighting the collaboration of the residency. What a capstone to Matt’s time here: leading young musicians to trust the magic of the moment.
What a way to kick off our Artist-in-Residence program!
