Celebrating 34 years of music, ideas, & community on the radio

Remembering Bob Weir

Bob Weir at eTown, in 2017

Bob Weir spent a lifetime shaping the sound of American music. As a founding member of the Grateful Dead and a restless creative force beyond it, his songs have carried generations through questions of freedom, community, loss, joy and the long road in between.

eTown was honored to welcome Bob Weir not once, but twice. He first joined us in 1993. Twenty-four years later, in 2017, he returned, offering a reminder that great songs don’t fade. They deepen, gathering meaning as they move through time.

Starting January 21, tune in for a special broadcast celebrating his life and music, with moments from his time with us. It will be available on radio affiliates and podcasts.

All of us at eTown mourn his passing and give thanks for the music, the spirit and the stories he leaves behind.

Bob Weir at eTown

Bob Weir’s history with eTown goes back to 1993, when he first joined us for a show in Boulder supporting the Nature Conservancy. That early visit helped shape the spirit of eTown: generous, spontaneous and rooted in connection. The rest of the photos you see here are from Bob’s 2017 visit, when he returned with the same open-hearted presence. Please scroll through these memories.
