Phil Roy
Philadelphia native PHIL ROY first discovered his talent for songwriting while at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Though an amazing solo performer, Roy is best recognized by his songwriting, having his material recorded by Ray Charles, Guster, Widespread Panic, The Neville Brothers, “Pops” Staples, Joe Cocker, Aaron Neville, Tuck and Patti, and more. In addition, his songs are featured in numerous films including Leaving Las Vegas, As Good As It Gets, The Mask, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Love And Sex, among others.
Roy’s debut solo album, “grouchyfriendly” (Ear Pictures, 2000) received national airplay and has earned him critical acclaim including Amazon.com’s 10 Best Emerging Artist CDs of 2000, Customers’ Favorite CD for 2000 and the Independent Music Awards’ 2002 Independent “Folk-Singer-Songwriter” of the year. His follow-up release, “Issues + Options” (Ear Pictures, Oct. 2002) marks a triumphant return from Roy, and has already received airplay at Starbucks stores across North America.
